The Last
Sounds
“We want to preserve the sounds that will not survive the next generation of development — not as nostalgia, but as record. The world is getting louder and certain frequencies are disappearing. We want someone to go and find them.”
Direction
Raw and unsentimental. No filtering, no enhancement. Record exactly what is there. The value is in the original document, not in a produced version of it. Sound designers need not apply.
Natural environments under acoustic threat from development, agriculture, or climate change. Coastal, forest, wetland, highland. The brief is open about geography — the maker should choose the places they know or can reach.

Approach
I will focus on the Black Sea coastal wetlands — areas I have been working in for three years. My existing access to restricted estuary zones means I can capture soundscapes that no one else can legally reach. All recordings will be binaural, captured at dawn and dusk.
Timeline
Phase 1 fieldwork: Jan–Mar 2025 · Phase 2 archive & narrative: Apr–Jul 2025 · Final delivery: Aug 2025
Maker suggestion — approved by Thornfield & Co
“I propose adding a short companion piece — a 10-minute audio essay narrated over the recordings. Not part of the original deliverables but a natural extension. Thornfield agreed.”
